There is much to be thankful for this season.<\/p>\n

For me, the turkey isn’t one of them. But historically, the people, the laughter, and those memory making moments captured on camera have always been.<\/p>\n

And, then, there is the ‘Internet of things.’<\/p>\n

‘IoT?’<\/em><\/p>\n

I know what you’re thinking.\u00a0 Stay with me.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to Gartner, the Internet of Things ought to be on every organization’s radar for 2017 and 2018. And not only are they preaching this gospel, they have outlined the following 10 technologies to support their plea.<\/p>\n

Here is Gartner’s framework for the Internet of Things:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Security:<\/strong>\u00a0 Security technologies will be needed to encrypt communication and protect devices and platform from cyber attacks and physical tampering.<\/p>\n

2. Analytics<\/strong>:\u00a0 As data volumes increase, IoT needs may diverge further from traditional analytics.<\/p>\n

3. Device Management:<\/strong> Devices will require monitoring, firmware\u00a0 and software updates, diagnostics, crash analysis and reporting, physical management and security management.<\/p>\n

4. Low-Power Short-Range Networks<\/strong>: Gartner predicts that low-power, short range networks will dominate wireless IoT connectivity throughout the next decade.<\/p>\n

5. Low-Power, Wide -Area Networks<\/strong>: Wide-area IoT networks, industry observers hope will eventually be able to deliver date rates ranging from hundreds of bits per seconds to tens of kilobits per second with nationwide coverage.<\/p>\n

6. Processors<\/strong>: Processors may determine how much power IoT devices consume and whether they’re cable of strong security and encryption<\/p>\n

7. Operating Systems:<\/strong> Traditional operating systems\u00a0 are incapable of supporting most IoT applications.<\/p>\n

8. Event Stream Processing:<\/strong> Distributed stream computing platforms have emerged to support IoT\u00a0 applications that generate large volumes of data that must be analyzed in real time.<\/p>\n

9. Platforms:<\/strong> IoT platforms can provide various levels of service including low-level device control , data management and IoT application development.<\/p>\n

10. Standards and Ecosystems<\/strong>: Standards and application programming interfaces will be essential for allowing IoT devices to inter-operate.<\/p>\n
